Although it feels like a cottage, the Village Farm Retreat is actually a small part of a large 100+ year old Victorian on a one acre property two blocks up the hill from the inn. There’s a complete wall separating it from the other part of the house and it has its own private entrance. The wonderfully landscaped garden includes a pond and chicken coop (no roosters!).

The retreat has one bedroom upstairs with a double bed and great ocean view from the writer’s desk. It’s a great place to focus on your writing or art project (novel, thesis, collage?) On the main level is a small living room that has a double sized futon and two chairs and a small efficiency kitchen, a TV, DVD and a stereo and a NEW GAS STOVE. Relax in the claw foot tub with a shower attachment in the private bathroom. Enjoy the lovely deck where you can have a cup of tea or a glass of wine and gaze out to the peaceful garden with the view of Mendocino Bay and the ocean beyond.

Steps away from the beach and village

Head down to the beach on Alegria’s private path and stroll by the crashing waves or walk to nearby shops and galleries displaying one-of-kind treasures. Take a hike in one of seven state parks and preserves within a 15 minute drive, walk to three of them. Have dinner in one of Mendocino’s world-class restaurants and cafes. Most feature seasonal, local, organic ingredients in hearty, satisfying, creative dishes. The Village Farm Retreat is your base from which to launch your adventures on the Mendocino Coast. Later, sink into a comfortable bed with silky smooth 600 thread count sheets, a fluffy duvet, and a beautiful quilt.

Make your coffee your way with a drip coffee maker, filters, and a supply of locally roasted, freshly ground organic, fair trade coffee from Thanksgiving Coffee, just north of us in Fort Bragg. Thanksgiving Coffee was a pioneer in offering organically grown, fairly traded, shade grown coffee. There’s also an assortment of 11 organic teas from Numi Teas of Oakland from which to choose. Green, black, white, and herbal are all in the mix. A refrigerator and microwave are provided as well, ready for your favorite snacks and beverages. Glassware, a cutting board and serrated knife, wine opener, utensils and paper towels: everything you might need is at the ready.

Because the Village Farm Retreat is a vacation rental and is two blocks away, breakfast and daily housekeeping service are not included.

$190/night Double Occupancy. Additional persons $15/night per person. Maximum occupancy 4 people.
